This is the best holiday sugar cookie recipe. No joke!
If there is one thing I look forward too the most about the holidays, it’s baking!! I am not a talented cookie artist, however, my kids and I still love to join in on the fun and make these delicious and easy cut out sugar cookies.
With a little frosting and some holiday sprinkles, you will have some beautiful cookies for those baking gift baskets!

- 1 cup butter, salted and at room temperature
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 teaspoon almond extract ( the secret ingredient!!)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
Preheat oven to 375℉ . Grease a cookie sheet.
Using an electric mixer, cream butter and white sugar together. Add vanilla and almond extracts. Blend.
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, powdered sugar and baking powder. Gradually mix into the butter mixture.
Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill for 45 minutes to an hour.
Roll out dough in small portions on a powdered sugared surface (prevents sticking). Use holiday cookie cutters to cut out your shapes.
Use a spatula to transfer cookies from rolling surface to greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375℉ for 8-9 minutes. Cool on a wire baking rack.
Frosting cookies using the pre-made “whipped vanilla frosting. A fun twist is to add some peppermint extract to it!
Frost cookies and add holiday sprinkles. Super simple, right!
