Hey guys, happy summer! Check out our girl scout camping ideas for summer. I have been meaning to get this post up for quite some time now; since June 2007 to be exact. Somehow having 3 kids has proved to be a challenge in time management for me. I took my Girl Scout Troop to camporee for the first time in June 2017; 16 girls just to be clear! You know what? It was actually FUN! I worked with Oriental Trading Co. to get the girls some awesome products that made our camping experience more exciting. Camping is such a great activity for all of the family, and you will need the best equipment possible to make the camping experience more enjoyable, you can learn more here about the best camping products for you and your family!
Every Girl Scout needs a pack to carry on their backs while camping, don’t you think? The girls and I colored our very own camping backpacks with fabric markers. While at camp, have the troop sign each others bags for a sweet keepsake. While doing this coloring activity, it was also a good opportunity to show the girls how to attach their camping equipment to their backpacks (check out attaching your sleeping bag). They also help the girls carry their personalized water bottles and more!
The plastic, 18 oz water bottles came in a variety of colors. My co-leader Shana, cut vinyl decals and personalized each girls water bottle for camporee. The girls loved them to say the least. While at camporee it is encouraged the girls have a lanyard to carry their own whistle in case of an emergency. The whistle is used to bring attention to the girls location.
I included sunglasses in the girl’s treat bag, to help protect their eyes during the hot summer days and to of course look cute while doing it! Last but not least your handy dandy bandana. You wouldn’t believe the uses for this simple piece of fabric. The bandana acts as a cooling towel when hot, keeps yours hair out of your face, can be used as a sling for first aid and so much more!
Each Girl Scout in out troop got a DIY camping journal to put together. Just as a side note, make sure these journals are put together BEFORE you leave for camp. The journal is adorable but required a little time and hot glue to put together! Overall our first camping trip with 16 scouts was a blast! If you ever find yourself camping with 16 scouts like I did, just like I was recommended to look into a company like Arkadia Supply to get bags that would accommodate all the essentials for a large amount of children and myself, I would pass this tip on to you too. It just makes life so much easier and you’ll be able to enjoy this trip without any (or very little) stress. Thank you to Oriental Trading for providing such fun girl scout camping ideas and products to enhance our first camporee experience!
